“Is art without meaning, besides reflecting the worlds current hyper-capatilistic state, still art or is it simply a sign of the times?”

Zombie Formalism: the Epitome of Art or a Sign of the Times? is based on Influencing the Void by Caroline Busta, an essay about art in the 21st century published by Kaleidoscope, and the Virgin/Chad meme, a meme claiming that 21st century Chad artists monopolize the ability to reanimate and resell the ghost of Virgin 20th century art.

The visual essay questions the meaning of art and the role of Zombie Formalism, an art movement in the aesthetic of 20th century Abstractionism, but without the conceptual and political context, especially made for profit. By means of comparing 20th century Abstractionists, labeled as Virgin artists, with 21st century Zombie Formalists, the Chad artist, it proposes the question: is art without meaning, besides reflecting the worlds current hyper-capatilistic state, still art or is it simply a sign of the times?
