“The medium is not a fixed vessel for the message, but an intertwined part of it”

Bobbie van Leeuwen is a graphic designer based in The Hague. Since graduating from the Willem de Kooning Academy, she has been working as a freelancer and autonomous bookmaker, focusing on the fields of contemporary art and photography.

In her autonomous practice, Van Leeuwen focuses on printed matter, exploring the form of the book and its resonance as an object in culture at large. Using a combined personal and theoretical approach, her work focuses on the dialogue created by the relation of images and their presentational vessels. Her work is characterized by unexpected combinations, recontextualization of subject matter, and a thoughtful treatment of tactile characteristics.
